The work

About our drywall & painting

When you call about drywall and painting, you likely have a room that feels unfinished or damaged. Cracks from settling, popped nails, water stains from a past leak, or just outdated colors make the space look neglected. You want the walls smooth and the paint fresh, but you are not sure what it takes to get from damaged to done.

We start by removing loose tape and crumbling mud, then drive any popped nails deeper and cover them with joint compound. For holes, we cut out damaged drywall and screw in a new patch, then apply tape and three coats of mud, sanding between each. We use a pole sander, a taping knife, and a drywall saw. For painting, we caulk gaps, spot-prime stains, and roll on two coats of a quality latex paint.

The size of the room is the main factor in time and cost—a large living room takes more material and labor than a small bathroom. The condition of the walls matters: a room with heavy texture, multiple patches, or wallpaper residue requires extra prep. Access also plays a role; tight stairwells or high ceilings with tall walls slow the work. Paint sheen choice and color depth affect how many coats are needed.

Before we arrive, move furniture to the center of the room or into another space, and remove switch plates and outlet covers. On the day, we lay drop cloths and tape off trim and floors. We clean up dust with a shop vacuum, wipe down surfaces, and remove all debris. You will need to wait a few hours for paint to dry before moving furniture back, and avoid touching walls for a day.

Texture Matching

We match knockdown, orange peel, or skip-trowel textures by adjusting air pressure and mud consistency on a hopper gun so the repair blends into the existing wall.

Mud Drying Time

Joint compound must dry fully between coats—usually 24 hours in cool weather—or the final paint will crack and the patch will fail.

How the job runs

Our 4-step drywall & painting process

01

Assess & Prep

We inspect walls for cracks, popped nails, and water damage. We protect floors and trim with drop cloths and tape, then remove loose debris.

02

Patch & Mud

We cut out damaged drywall, screw in patches, and apply joint tape. Three coats of all-purpose mud are applied, sanded smooth between each coat.

03

Prime & Caulk

We caulk gaps at trim and corners, then spot-prime any stains or bare drywall patches. This seals the surface so the paint adheres evenly.

04

Paint & Finish

We cut in edges with a brush, then roll two coats of paint. We inspect for drips or missed spots, then clean up all drop cloths and tape.

The difference

Why NoCo Home Services for drywall & painting

  • Flat Seams

A drywall seam that is not feathered properly will show a ridge under paint. We taper each coat of mud wider than the last so the joint disappears.

  • No Brush Marks

Paint applied with a dry brush or too much pressure leaves streaks. We use the right nap roller and a wet edge technique to get a smooth, even finish.

  • Dust Control

Sanding drywall creates fine dust that settles everywhere. We use a pole sander with a vacuum attachment and seal doorways to keep the rest of your home clean.
